God for sure had a plan for me today. And I noticed it. This morning we had a speaker on our last day at Mom2Mom. The Wonderful Katherine Martin! She spoke to us briefly about Grace. It's Love in Another Face. Random Acts of Kindness. When someone does something for you that you didn't see coming. Katherine asked us today if we had been graced? Well after that A-MAZING breakfast, I said, "oh yeah I have!" But she also asked, have you graced someone else today? Well considering it was only 10am ish, no I haven't. After coming home and putting my daughter down for a nap I recieved a phone call from my Dad. (The Post below is all about that.) The phone call made me pretty upset. I mean come on. He just went through this! And 4 months later we gotta do it AGAIN? Especially after a friend of ours just lost her Dad to a heart attack. With all that, the flood gates opened for a good 10 minutes. (Thankfully my husband was home on Lunch Break :) Shortly there after I had to get myself together, and work the bar tonight with a smile. Yeah right. The first 2 hours I couldn't smile and felt like I was going to fall asleep. I was drained in every way. Thinking about my Dad. Needless to say, I got a nice shower of Stella Artois (cause it fell off my tray) and dropped at least 20 pieces of silverwear. My Mojo was way off. God met me where I was at and showered me with something else. Grace.
Part I - Gracing Others
Towards the end of my night at work, I found out the gentleman on Table 91 was getting ready to propose to his girlfriend. Of course I kept an eye on the table waiting for it to be cleared from dinner, so I could get a front row seat to the special event! As I was passing by, his girlfriend had gone to the restroom and he was VERY nervous! I stopped to jokingly tell him to breathe (inhale, exhale, he he he hoo, etc. haha). As my manager also approached to wish him luck, we found out that this man did NOT have a camera! (You CANT have a proposal without a Camera!) Thinking fast I remembered I had my camera in my purse so I offered to take some photos for them and e-mail them to him this evening. He of course was so thankful. We watched the whole thing unfold. I got some nice shots of the dessert and the ring before they were sent out. I got her first reaction, his reaction, putting the ring on, the kiss, etc.! They were SO excited and of course she said YES! I always love doing things for people out of the blue anyways, so I didn't really remember about what I had learned this morning.......
Part II-Being Graced (After the Proposal)
I was serving one of my tables dessert. Since it was their anniversary, I served it to them myself with a candle to celebrate. (We do that for every anniversary.) When I went to the Pantry to pick up their dessert, our Pantry chef Mariano said," Here Jess, I saved these just for you." He slid me a small ramekin with 2 big and beautiful chocolate covered strawberries! I guess they were made for the couple's special dessert since we don't serve them normally with other desserts. I never asked for them. No one knew what was going on with me this afternoon. No one knew about my Dad. There were at least 15 other people that could have gotten those. But he saved them for me. At that moment, it hit me. I looked at the Strawberries, and then at Mariano and said, "Mariano, you just graced me!" He looked at me with a HUh? face, but I knew! I gave him a hug and thanked him. I also told him briefly about my Dad, so he could really understand how truly thankful I was for his random act of kindess. AKA. Grace. At the end of the night, my co-worker Lori was bummed that Mariano didn't have any left-over, so I gave her one of mine :) Then again, passing back the Grace buck.
I feel blessed that Katherine's devotion today impacted me directly. Now I feel at Peace. I know God is here, and he's doing his job. He did the "plus one" tonight not just by being with my Dad, but me too. What a blessing :)
